Joe H kindly supplied this mug shot having smuggled his anniversary Tom Tom mug into the Weybridge Museum. Concord was of course a fine example of what the English & French can do when they put their heads together...a taste of what is to come from Naim & Focal?…

We've had a spate of NDS demos recently which has only reinforced our opinion that this is simply the most incredible digital source we've ever heard...

It's widely reported that a hifi system only performs at its best when given a dedicated mains supply. So why have I put this installation off for so many years, preferring to look at electronics upgrades? I think its because the process seemed fraught with uncertainties. What specification to use? Can I trust an electrician to do it properly? Will my house get ripped to bits in the process? Does it really make *THAT* much difference, given all of the effort?
Well, finally, I've been…

James: one day we'll actually be at the same motor festival at the same time!
Silverstone is a little less frenetic than Goodwood but there is nothing quite like seeing some old classics being rung out down hangar straight (and then having a devil of a job trying to stop!) A few photos for audiophiles with petrol in their veins:
Ferrari 246 (I think)…

We had a wonderful day out at the Coronation Festival in the grounds of Buckingham Palace, which celebrates all the companies that hold a royal warrant to supply the Royal Family. I was delighted to see that the Naim for Bentley system was featured in all the new…

We had a splendid time yesterday at Naim’s 40th birthday bash. Good company, great live music and a hog roast washed down with a pint or two – what more do you need? It certainly makes you proud to be part of this wonderful success story (particularly…

We had a blast on Saturday with many friends popping in for our first showroom open day. I can't think of many ways I'd rather spend a Saturday than chatting about music and hifi with a load of mates and based on the response to this first event we intend to make it a regular date in the Tom Tom calendar.…

A couple of months back I went to see Chord and had the full Tuned ARAY (TA) dem courtesy of in-house music nut Nigel Finn. The experience was enthralling enough to warrant getting some cables to try at home, a pursuit I generally avoid like the X Factor because after all how can a cable enhance your musical enjoyment? Let alone a digital cable. So I persuaded Nigel to lend…

At Europe's biggest and arguably the world's best hi-fi show, High End in Munich, Naim took the opportunity to tell us about forthcoming product and software changes as well as giving an insight into how the business is shaping up in today's changing market. MD Paul Stephenson says that Naim now has 150 plus staff of whom 30 work in R&D and increasing amounts of manpower…

James and I finally got ourselves down to Amesbury to visit the folk at Chord Co to find out how they make their cables and hear more about the breakthrough technology they call Tuned Aray (TA). Nigel ‘The Cable Doctor’ Finn made a very good case for TA with his dem at the Bristol show but hearing it on a Naim system in the controlled environment of the Chord Co dem…

A study by scientists at McGill University in Montreal confirms that listening to music can be just as pleasurable as the act of love itself.
"Research suggests that good music activates the same part of the brain that responds to other positive stimuli, such as a delicious meal, or sexual intercourse. Scans found that areas in the brain's 'pleasure' centre became…

You could say I was more than a little sceptical about high end cables, which to my ears generally changed rather than improved the sound of most systems, and then Chord came and blew away all my references by demonstrating the effect of Sarum Tuned Array applied step by step throughout a system. Sarum Tuned Aray simply gets out of the way and lets you hear…

Partly by dint of weak competition Bristol has become the best show on the UK scene, the one with the biggest buzz and often some of the best sounds. This year it seemed as lively as ever with hardcore enthusiasts cueing round the block to get through the doors first thing Friday morning. I got there on Friday night and had a sneak peak at Tom Tom’s Guru room where James and…

We enjoyed an exceptional response from both the public, trade and press to the launch of the new Guru Junior speakers this weekend. The Juniors created a huge amount of excitement throughout the show with many visitors telling is that they had been told by other exhibitors and visitors that they just had to experience the sound we were achieving in our room…
