Naim mu-so in action

The first samples of mu-so, Naim’s wireless audio system, have been making a whistle stop tour of reviewer’s homes and last week I had my 15 minutes (well two days, but that’s still quick). It’s a lovely bit of kit in the flesh, very solid at 13 kilos and beautifully finished with the aluminium over MDF wrap and solid ally heat sinking. I was concerned about the acrylic base but that looks very good too, reflecting both what’s underneath it and the heatsinking at the rear. The way that Naim has hidden all the connections, and you only really need power, is also very clever.

Being a sideboard oriented all-in-one device mu-so is very different for Naim but they have managed to incorporate many of the qualities that enthusiasts have come to associate with the company. You can see my full assessment over at the ear, but in a nutshell mu-so is has remarkable bass extension and a surprisingly revealing midband, it clarified lyrics on it that have eluded me on big separate systems. This lets the leading edges through and delivers excellent timing for the breed, it also delivers a degree of musical communication that keeps you listening. It was created to let those that don’t want separates in the house hear what music is all about, and it stands a very good chance of doing so.
