SBLs MK 1s with MKII bass/mids,here on the end of an all Olive CDSII/52/SC/250 system, connected by 10m of NACA5.

I bought then blind or should that be deaf? Perceived wisdom was that if I didn't like them then they were a quick re-sell.

What's not to like? Even after travelling 200 miles in the back of a Polo they sounded great.

After re-fettling, filling spike damage in bottom box, fitting new metal pads and re-seal with a new gasket they were even better, and 5 years  they still are. OK a bit of a fuss, but they have lasted longer than any other speaker I've owned. They have seen me through from 72/140 to 82/140,82 /HCs/250, 82/SC/250 and finally 52/SC/250. Will I change ? Well never say never, if I can get a pair of SL2s for the same price I paid for them (£250) then yes.

I see more front end changes before the Sybyls leave.

I've never been called ultra orthodox before, but I am now an all Naim system owner. It has taken me 20 years of Naim ownership to reach this point, but I am pleased with where I have arrived. I currently have Ovator S600s, driven by 252/300 amplification from an NDS/555PSDR. The server is not Naim, but I don't really consider this as part of the Hi Fi system - I'm very comfortable with my ability to configure a computer and don't believe Naim can help me here.

The Ovators driven by an all Naim system are hugely enjoyable and reveal everything on the source material. The music just flows...

I spent around 9 months following Naim as they fine tuned the S600s taking every opportunity to listen to each enhancement. From the very beginning of this journey it was obvious that they presented the music differently to any, other speaker I had heard. There was a purity in the mid band and upper registers that just seemed 'right', although it did take a while before the bass also jelled. The BMR technology does sound different, and to some ears different is wrong, but once you take the time to get used to it, you realise the crossover in traditional designs was in fact taking something away.

I listen to a lot of female vocal material - Karine Polwart is sounding splendid right now..., and I have yet to hear a speaker that presents vocal material as naturally. Same goes for piano.

The Ovators do seem to create mixed opinions, but then speakers have always been the most controversial component in my opinion. For me, I have nothing but praise for them and they open a wide window to my music which is a critical part of my life.

My system is naim from front to back end, including cables and support, so I guess you could describe me as ultra-orthodox, or (unkindly) devout? zealot? sheep?

The history of naim is amplification and that’s where my introduction to the company started, back in the early 1990s. The naim infection then quickly spread to the source component and cables. My speakers resisted for a long time before finally succumbing to naim a couple of years ago.

There’s definitely something to be said for using components that have been designed and optimised together. Perhaps it’s a balance and harmony or maybe it’s just a release from the stress of doubting that things are properly optimised.

Over the years, it's become clear that each naim addition or upgrade makes a real difference, which for me has resulted in a step by step improvement. This has been the case with the speakers at the back end and surprisingly it has even proved to be the case with the ripper/server front end (for more on this see my comment to James’ blog post below concerning the UnitiServe and ‘source first’).

When I considered a speaker upgrade, after using non-naim speakers for many years, the Ovator range had been launched. The S600 didn’t quite do it for me, but the S400 did. I thought they were worth a punt to see how an all-naim setup performed. Two years on and they are still in my living room delivering great music.

Many years ago ........... I went into a hi-fi shop in Cremona, historical Naim electronics retailer. The owners made me listen to electronic equipment which at that time were in operation: Naim Naim Nac 72 and Nap 90. Next I went back on Saturday with my speakers for listening, fù "attraction" fulminant, since then the "virus" Naim sound came into my house. Today my personal system is composed as follows: Lp 12 Naim Aro with Phono Pre Prefix Naim CDS3 Naim Nac 52 Naim Nap 135 Naim Headline Naim Nbl I would like to thank you all for the great satisfaction that the electronic Vs cause me to this day. thanks Naim                                             Corrado Baiguera
