Applewood Road on Active Ovator S600's and some Super Lumina...

I spent a very enjoyable afternoon with Pete yesterday listening to the active 552/3 x NAP 300/Ovator S600 active system that we put together for him, as featured in the current Naim Connection Magazine. This system never ceases to amaze and the Applewood road LP just sounded so present...

...in the room it was simply uncanny. However unusually for a session at Pete's, the turntable soon fell silent, for once I'd installed a Super Lumina interconnect on his CD 555 we were compelled to listen to CD all afternoon. On such an open and transparent system as this, the effect of opening up the source with Super Lumina was nothing short of staggering and it gave CD replay a vitality and energy that was impossible to ignore. I think Pete summed it up nicely when I received this email last night:-

"This new cable is ridiculous … just listening to Dave Matthews band 
playing Don’t Drink The Water, in the background I hear a female voice
that I’ve never heard clearly before and it sounded like Alanis Morrissete.
I check the label copy and there’s a credit on the song with her name …

… ridiculous again!"

I downloaded Applewood Road from Qobuz tonight.. It is rather good isn't it. And yes, the SL cable does open a rather wide window on the music. I bet Tom Sawyer sounds pretty fine now Pete!
