For years i dreamed of owning a NAIM system, however finances would never allow; or so i thought! simply by stopping smoking i had my system within 2 years this comprised of a CD 3.5, NAC90, NAP90, and a FLACAP: these were driving a pair of Monitor Audio MA3's. This system sounded absolutely superb once i tamed the harsh treble by substituting the NAIM speaker cable for cord rumour. Unfortunately in 2009 we were paid a visit by the dreaded burglars, they made off with the system (along with about 35K's worth of other stuff) but left the speakers as were disturbed. They system was replaced by Tom Tom Via insurance with the NAIM equivalent of the day: CD5X, NAC122X NAP150X and FLATCAP2. Though probably a far superior system, the speakers sounded truly truly awful :(. I managed to find a nearly new ex demo pair of Monitor Audio Silver 5 RS's as this was all my budget would stretch to. The only way i can describe this system is like a Ferrari with 12 inch wheels! The speakers simply just can not put the power down. As a result the system has laid dormant for almost 4 years, and not really been listened to which is a real shame :( But recently my passion has been rekindled and with a 50th birthday looming my wife has been persuaded to get me some new speakers as a gift! lol. Am thinking a good pair of Quality stand mounts, between £800 and £1000 not including stands. Will keep you posted and updated when the change happens, hopefully an early birthday present as don't turn 50 till November.
