I first became aware of Naim when I saw the new 5 series displayed in a shop in Ringwood one day.
However, my interest was really sparked when I attended a visit to the factory, as a member of the IMechE.
I was really impressed by the engineering that goes in to all Naim equipment and seeing the different levels of detail at different range levels. The tour culmintaed in a listening session where we listened to three different price levels of equipment (CDS3 being the top CD player at that point) and the differences in all areas of performance were clear between them. At that point i vowed i would move away from my non-Naim surround set-up of the time and go for an NAC202/NAP200 CDX2.
Of course, the direction of Hifi has changed since then - and i am no longer focussed on that particular set-up but more an equivalent level of performance and i know that i want a streaming capability.
I have recently stepped on the Naim laddder with a Nait 5i-2, originally based on the premise that integrated units may date and i can always add to an amplifier. However, the Unitis of this world look like a good solution from a family perspective and although inevitably there will be some other technology come along, the streaming route appears the way to go; after all CD has been around for nigh on 30 years and is still going.
So i will see what happens this year regarding a source - it would be nice to see an non-amplified uniti/unitqute at the 5i/si level (rather than XS) but i may go the route of a fully integrated solution - I am currently aiming towards Superuniti.
