Most unfortunate summer, for the first time in 30 years I experienced the full force of hayfever! despite living on a small holding where we cut grass and hay!
Anyway to the point of the story... at one point I was up for getting rid of all my Naim/Linn gear as it sounded absolutely rubbish... till the doc stepped in. A couple of treatmements later and a regular dose all is back to normal. How strange we sometimes blame our equipment for whate we hear.
Anyway I cant apologise I am an original Linn Isobarik fan, and my system is CDX/102/NAPSC/HiCap/200/Isobariks(1988 best vintage) and guess what?
My complete respect to James that I have got to this stage and every reccomendation he has made has satisfied the ever power hungry/quality source input of the "briks" . Having been un-employed for some time an XPS is out of my grasp for the time being. But I can buy CD of artists like Etta James at £2.99 from Morrisons and I discoverd a new sound that I may have missed. Thank you James.
anyway tonite Amazon delivered the new Avenged Seven Fold Album "Hail To The King" not everyones taste but i cant wait to here the drumming.
I wish you all a great weekend and find sometime to find something new that your Naim/Linn system will really expose you to.
Love to all music lovers

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the reply, and mabye I will try to explain the best I can without sounding biased!
Back in the hay days of the eighties when cash was plentiful and Linn and Naim were "what you had to have or you were no one" I had the typical top system from both, Linn LP12 /Ittok/Karma/42.5/HiCap/250 and firstly KANS. Couldnt stand SARA's and had enough disposable cash to buy the Briks. Wow KANS with bass!!!
But there in lies the rub I lost the lot through a bitter divorce and never went near the brands for years...but then. I worked my way back up to CDX/102/Hicap/200 and Focal Lab speakers to replace a pair or original Intros. The bariks were bought and I will admit that I travelled over 300 miles each way to get them.... and set them up...played some music and went urghhh!
I had forgotten that they were very unforgiving...you cant just put them in place.. level this tighten that etc and let them settle in.
6 months after their arrival one of the tweeters blew and I had to replace all of them with the kind help of Wilmslow Audio. But now a year on and they are the most open and treat bad recordings with disgust ..make simple stuff like Mary Chapin Carpenter.. intimate and they seem to sound like nothing else that I have ever heard or have been satisfied with.. a long road but worth it. Coupled to my Naim gear supplied by the guys no matter what the music there is always something new to discover ..like the old recordings of Etta James.
Sorry it is a bit long winded but I did not want to come accross as a blinded fool!
Hi Dave,
Many thanks for your reply, a long journey but worth it!
Strange thing happened tonite. A lovely couple we know came round for a curry and a pint, as we are quite isolated, they had to drive over 5 miles, and had not been further in to our cottage than the kitchen when the husband did some roof work for us.
He spotted the gear on its stand and asked me where it came from! Guess what he had a history lesson about Julian and Ivor and was non the wiser... here is the rub I asked them what they would like to listen to as we had our curry and pints, Fleetwwood Mac came the reply and especially "Albatross". So having a copy of FMacs greatest hits,I put it on. Within 5 minutes my guest had positioned himself in my sweetspot chair and and announced that "he did not remember it sounding like this" Ok he had a number of old scruttoks under his belt, but I asked him what he meant!.
And this is the killer given Julian V entire whole reason for creating the sound, that it sounded too live!
Love to all and whatever lights your night when you sit with a suitably warm glass of red/ cool white lets raise it too a man who stuck to the principle that if you dont feel that you are there then its a waste of time, no matter now you dress it up!
Regards
Mark R
